When Nature Calls.

Image

I know it seems I’ve been peacefully hibernating, since I’ve been silent for the past several months. But in fact my life has been everything but peaceful. I have been completely consumed by a hectic work schedule, balancing time with family and friends, and finding time for the man I love. It’s been physically draining, emotionally tiring; a completely whirlwind to say the least. At times I’ve felt like I have little to say and no inspiration to call upon. Or maybe it’s the fact that I forget to stop and let myself take in all the beauty and inspiration around me.

ImageThis weekend, I was finally able to have a serene peaceful few hours to myself. Over a cup of coffee, I was gazing out my kitchen window and was struck by the beauty of my mother’s Yesterday, Today and Tomorrows (the common name for a beautiful flower bearing plant). I was inspired by the ombre effect of the clusters of it’s lavender, purple and white flowers. As quiet as my morning was, a self service mani was the perfect way to bring these different shades of purple to life.

Coming from a long line of green thumbs in my family, its hard to deny my connection to nature. I’ve learned  when inspiration seems out of my reach, I should get back to what I know and what makes me happy… appreciating the beauty of the world around me.

Hello, it feels so good to be back.

Change of Plans.

In the spirit of our yearly tradition, we celebrated our Valentine’s Day late. It seems more special to be celebrating our love, when not everyone else is doing the same. We made plans earlier in the week to have dinner at SUR in Hollywood, but after J woke up under the weather, we quickly ditched SUR for Wildfish in Newport Beach to stay local.

We wined and dined under romantic lighting, and shared laughs about memories of how first met.  It was a fabulously romantic evening, that ended perfectly with a movie and cuddle time with Phineas.

I hope you all had a very happy Valentine’s Day.

Staying In.

I don’t typically enjoy damp weather (because of the frizz factor), but after staying in most of the day I decided to get out and found myself at the movies for a nostalgic viewing of “Beauty and the Beast”..in 3D! I spent the rest of my Saturday cuddled up with Phineas, catching up with the Kardashians, and clipping away for a Polyvore orignial.

Hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend!Image via.

Golden Stripes

thrifted blouse and clutch, h&m shorts, carlos santana booties

I love the idea of giving something clean and classic, like this gold and black striped blouse, an edgy twist. Adding the black strappy booties ,crocodile leather clutch, and gold hardware turn my classic blouse and blazer into an edgy night time outfit. Red lips play off my subtle cheeks and eyes to add to the classic meets edgy juxtaposition.

Who says playing dress up is just for little girls?

My Favorite Things.

Glee’s back! (Yes, I am a Gleek.)

I feel like I’ve done so much this week with a copious array of projects and deadlines at work,  and different tasks around the house which I can now check off my “to do” list. It’s been a  very efficient week so far, but It’s only Tuesday. Thank God,  Glee’s back! I can sit back and relax, sans a “to do” list, for a little me time with my favorite television show, my plentiful collection of nail polish, and a snack pack of Oreos.

Hope you’re finding some you time too! In the meantime, these are a few of my favorite things this week.

A curbside rack packed with really great deals.

A red & gold dotted index finger for a little whimsy.

Sunshine yellow flats on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

Frizz control is an understatement. I love this stuff.

Passion For Fashion.

Girly Girl         A photographer friend introduced me to Polyvore, an interactive site dedicated to fashion. I created my first inspiration collage! I had so much fun pretending to be Rachel Zoe! Check it out, you’ll be just as obsessed!
Hope you’re having a great week so far. Happy Styling!

Leopard Print and Love.

Thrifted Leopard print dress (worn as jacket) and booties, F21 dress and accessories.

Leopard print has an amazing way of bringing out the confidence in me.  My boyfriend hates it, but I wear it anyway – not to spite him but because it makes me happy. Over the years I’ve learned not to be afraid of who I am. I love leopard print and I love that it makes me feel confident. The dress caught my eye while I was rummaging through the countless racks of abandoned clothes and it begged me to pick it up. I was sad though, when I realized it was an extra small. After cursing the thrift store gods , I tried it on anyway and was surprised when it fit. The buttons refused to stay closed, but the arms were a perfect fit for me.  Needless to say, I was sold on it and decided it would look great to wear open as a jacket. I love everything about it..especially the way the sheer fabric allows it to flow as I move around.

I recently wore it on a night out with my boyfriend. Who cares if he doesn’t love leopard print…because he loves me and that’s all that matters.
